DOST MECLISI
A Gifting Edition Packaging of Raki (Turkish Alcohol)
Raki, the national drink of Turkey, is commonly opened at friendly gatherings, with a unique tradition, that one never opens a bottle themselves; a friend must do it for them.
Inspired by this ritual, I designed a gifting edition of Raki named 'Dost Meclisi', which means 'a circle of friends' in Turkish.
I then translated an old ghazal about friendship and Raki to English, and designed the packaging out of it, inspired by Arabic calligraphy.
The bottle comes in a ribbon-tied box, and an Ottoman miniature painting on the inside depicts a night of such gathering.
The maroon symbolizes brotherhood in their culture, often found in their military uniforms, while accents of gold refer to tezhip, the Ottoman art of manuscript illumination, symbolizing sacredness. A customizable neck adds personalization to the gift.
Dost Meclisi is a keepsake of friendship, laughter and memorable nights.
